Irene Longman, became Queensland’s first female parliamentarian in May 1929

Irene Longman, became Queensland’s first female parliamentarian in May 1929.  Her career ran for only one term following a change in government. No other woman was elected to Queensland State Parliament until Vi Jordan in 1966.

First woman member, Millicent Preston-Stanley, speaks in New South Wales Parliament

Millicent Preston-Stanley was the first woman member of the New South Wales Parliament. Elected to the NSW Legislative Assembly in May 1925, she delivered her first speech two weeks after the opening of the parliament.
